It is with profound sadness that the family of Whitmore Thomas Burgess announce his passing on November 21, 2022, at the age of 93 years following a lengthy battle with Cancer and Alzheimer’s/Dementia.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Deryck and his daughter-in-law Cathy; niece, Patsy Burgess, nephew, Keneth Burgess, along with numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Sheila Parris; brothers, Randolph , Francis; sister Phyliss,; parents, Ethelbert and Dorothy Burgess; and niece June Whiskey.
Whitmore loved teaching and taught school for over 40 years in both his native land of Trinidad & Tobago and various parts of northern Alberta. He was awarded a local Excellence in Teaching award in 1991 for his work while teaching in Lac La Biche.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 1:00 pm, on Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. Agnes Church, 10826-62 Avenue NW, Edmonton. The service will be livestreamed. Please click here to view the service.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Whitmore Burgess’s name to The Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society or Kidney Foundation of Canada.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Hardisty Nursing Home and the staff at Home Instead for their care and compassion looking after Whitmore.
