It is with sadness that we, the family, must tell you the man, the myth, the legend and self-proclaimed best looking guy in Cape Breton, Wesley Victor “Tootsie” Nichols passed away at his residence on Monday, September 12, 2022.
Born February 12, 1949, in Whitney Pier, he was a son of the late Wesley Sr. and Gizella (Marketch) Nichols.
A bricklayer by trade, Wes worked for the Sydney Steel Corp until retirement and, from that day forward, enjoyed several summers in Mira Gut including the day he passed.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Whitney Pier, a 4th degree officer of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Steelworker’s and Sydney Pensioner’s Club.
Wes is survived by his loving wife, Judy; sons, Terry (Kristy), Whitney Pier and Jeffery (Michelle), Sydney; sisters, Elizabeth “Honey” (Ron) Burke and Heather Donovan and her daughter, Lisa (his tarabish partner); and his pride and joy and reason for living, his grandchildren, Daniel, Isaac and Olivia. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, John David McLaughlin, Frank Corbett, Terry Gillis, Paul “Cricket” O’Keefe and Terry Muldoon; in-laws, Bonnitta (Frank) Corbett, Phyllis Bennett and Rosie (Emille) Theriault; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Gerald Donovan and Wayne Bennett.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
