Wendell’s Obituary
Reid, Wendell Archie – age 91, of Williamsdale, passed away July 3, 2022 in East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Williamsdale on February 24, 1931 to the late Archie and Blanche Reid (MacMaster). Wendell was the loving husband of Margaret Reid (nee Dobson) and father to Jim (Norma), Wayne (Karma), Derek (Brenda), Brent (Charlene) and Wendy Reid. Grandfather to Wade (Octavia), Devon (Sherry), Nathalie, Blaine, Matthew, Jordan, Jennifer (Steve), Ryan (Katelyn), and Jordon. Great-grandfather to Ian, William, Lucas, Karis, Everley, Brodie and Kylie. Wendell was predeceased by his infant daughter Heather, sister, Dolena, and brothers, Howard, Eldon, Arlin, and Percy. Wendell grew up in Williamsdale and at 15 years of age he followed in the footsteps of his father and older brothers working in the lumber industry. After Wendell met and married Margaret, he continued to work in logging during the early years of their marriage. Wendell and Margaret also owned a small farm, producing strawberries, dairy, beef, poultry, and pork. In 1970, Wendell upgraded his education, completing a program in drafting at NSCC in Springhill which allowed him to become a carpenter for many years working at Oxford Frozen Foods as well as doing various private contract work. In 1973 he became a blueberry farmer and did that for many years until 2000 when his son Wayne took over the business. Wendell and Margaret continued to be very active members in their community for many years; members of the Millvale United Baptist Church, the Oxford Frozen Foods Pioneer Club, the Oxford Seniors Club, and Wendell was a member of the Oxford area Men’s Choir. In January of 2022 they moved into East Cumberland Lodge, in Pugwash. The family would like to extend a very heart-felt thanks to the staff of East Cumberland Lodge for the outstanding care that they provided to Wendell. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Millvale United Baptist Church are welcome. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford. Funeral at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, followed by interment at Millvale United Baptist Church Cemetery.
