Wayne Roy Brandt
October 2, 1953 – October 8, 2022
We are heartbroken to share that Wayne Roy Brandt passed away on the morning of October 8, 2022, at the age of 69, at home with his wife and children at his side after a very brief battle with cancer.
He was born October 2, 1953 in Neenah, Wisconsin to William and Alice Brandt. He joined the United States Army as a young man and was stationed in Germany. After the army, Wayne spent 23 years working for Menasha Corporation. He met the love of his life Linda, in 1975, and they were married in 1982. While raising five daughters, they decided to embark on a new adventure and moved to Whitefish Lake, Ontario to follow their hearts and start a new career as fishing resort owners, while also working for 9 years at Grand Portage Lodge. Wayne spent 25 years as a volunteer for Nolalu Emergency Services Team as a firefighter and emergency first responder. He had a great love for the outdoors and was often found fishing and hunting and had some wild tale of his trophies that got away. Wayne enjoyed traveling to new places but really loved the redwoods on the west coast and Super Bowls in Las Vegas. Wayne also enjoyed playing cards with friends and spending time around bonfires with the happy crabby campers.
Wayne is survived by his wife Linda of 40 years and his five daughters, Fawn Smith (Shane) of Grand Marais, Minnesota, Jennifer and Jamie Brandt (Sal) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Tiffany Runciman (Jeff) of Green Bay, Wisconsin and Alyssa Rowinski (Derek) of Thunder Bay, Ontario. He had beautiful grandchildren he loved spending time with, Alicia, Hailey, and Ryan Smith and Lucas and Alice Rowinski and one great granddaughter Elowyn. He is also survived by his siblings Judy Joosten (Gary), Kathy Radtke, Steve Brandt and a half brother James Brandt as well as many nieces and nephews and Thomas Mueller of Neenah, Wisconsin whom he loved like a son.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Alice Brandt, siblings David, William, and John.
A celebration of life will be held at the Westfort Prosvita on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 pm EST. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Wayne’s honour to Paws for Life or a charity or your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, Thunder Bay.
