Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Wayne Terry, who passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022, with family by his side.
Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, to Doug and Klora Terry, the family moved to Muskoka when Wayne was eight. A Huck Finn character, he loved the outdoors and became a fisherman for life. School was not Wayne’s happy place, and in high school, he left his mom a note and struck out on his own.
He worked for Don Smith who taught him the block laying trade, which he practiced his entire career. Many homes in the community and those of family and friends sit on a firm foundation because of Wayne’s skilled hands.
He played baseball for many years, and also loved curling and playing darts.
He met and married Marlene Insley, and they made their home on River Road in Bracebridge. Kids, Christine and Kenneth soon arrived, and they filled the big house with pets (wild and domestic) and love. Grandson Kaleb added another happy dimension to family life and Wayne was so proud of all of them.
Some years ago, Wayne purchased an acreage on the Falkenburg Road and the Hunt Camp soon became his personal refuge. Any time was a good time to be there, especially during moose and deer season when he was surrounded by friends.
He leaves behind his children Christine Terry (Josh), Kenneth Terry and cherished grandson Kaleb. He was predeceased by his wife Marlene, parents Doug Terry and Klora Tingey and his big brother Gordon D. Terry. Also surviving him are sisters Janice Hummel (John), Cheryl Hammond (Jim), sister-in-law Debbie Parker (John) and his many nieces and nephews.
Wayne’s family wishes to thank the team at RVH in Barrie, his homecare team Susan Clarke, Tracy, Shannon and Cierra, and also Megan Moore. A special thank-you to his friend Margaret McDonald for her advice and support through his medical journey.
Andy’s House deserves thanks also for the kind, gentle and professional care afforded Wayne and his family during his last few days.
No plans have been made, but a time to celebrate Wayne will be announced in the future.
Wayne, may you find a quiet spot by the river with your old dog Herc and a cold Coors!
If desired, memorial donations made to Andy’s House Hospice would be greatly appreciated and can be arranged through Reynolds Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be shared at www.reynoldsfuneral.com.
