It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wayne Pielle (Xwaxwe) on March 2, 2022. Wayne was predeceased by his mother Susan Pielle (Thupwuut), father Charles Pielle, brothers Allan John, Allan John II, and Vern, granddaughter Makara, uncle Chief Joseph Mitchell, aunt Elizabeth Harry, grandparents Chief Bill and Rose Mitchell (nee Dominick), and Charlie Sr. and Josephine Pielle (nee Rodello). Wayne is survived by his wife, Brenda, children Jodie (Steve), Troy, Tyler, Russell, grandchildren Makaela and Mattias, sisters Glynis (Phil), Rena (Frank), Judy (Gino), Michelle (Mike), mother-in-law Barbara Coey, former spouse Joanne Williams, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends. Wayne was a proud member of the Klahoose First Nation. He was born on a boat en route from Cortes Island to Powell River, and was delivered by his mother’s parents. The last chapter of his work life was also spent on a boat when he owned and operated Yekwamen Charters Ltd taking personnel and supplies from Lund to a work site at the head of Toba Inlet. His other work life included logging, truck driving, and teaching his traditional language at Brooks High School. Family was everything to Wayne and he expressed his love for others by teasing, telling jokes, and sharing stories. Wayne will be remembered for his sound knowledge of his traditional language, territory, and culture as well as his quick wit and sense of humour. The family would like to express appreciation to relatives, community members, friends and service providers for the compassion and support extended to us at this difficult time.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Wayne Pielle May 17 1956

It with great sadness to have learned of the sudden, unexpected and very tragic passing of Wayne. Having lived abroad for over 20 years I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Wayne intimately, but I know that he was a loving, caring husband and father to some of the nicest young men I’ve ever met. I’d like Brenda, her children and whole family to know that my heartfelt sympathies are with you; you are all in my thoughts from across the widest ocean.
