Wayne Norbert Hann 2022

Obituary
Wayne Hann (Age 68 years)
It is with great sorrow and heartache that we announce the passing of Wayne Norbert Hann, surrounded by his family on Monday, April 4, 2022. Wayne is predeceased by his parents Mercedes (McCarthy) and Norbert Hann; brother Danny and nephew Wayne Bagashinski. Wayne leaves to mourn his wife and soulmate of 35 years Brenda Lockyer; his daughter Erica; brothers Ted (Sue); Larry (Glenys); sisters Elaine and Lena (Rick); the Lockyer family and sister-in-law Tracey Lockyer-Higdon and her family. Wayne had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins both in Canada and the United States who will miss him, most especially his uncle Ken Hann (Ann Marie) and aunt Molly McGrath in St. John’s.
Wayne loved watching his nieces and nephews grow up and was happiest when he was in their midst. He will be sadly missed by Giselle, Cassidy, Katie, Allie, Daniel, Candace, Maclean, Paul, Alexis and Chad.
Wayne had a 30-year career as a leader in Information Technology at College of the North Atlantic; he was a mentor to many young IT staff on his team and reveled in their success. Wayne was involved in the Qatar Project in the early 2000s and visited College of the North Atlantic-Qatar many times; but it was University of Calgary-Qatar (UCQ) that would lure him overseas. Wayne spent 12 years as the Director of Information Technology at UCQ; those years afforded him and Brenda the opportunity to forge new friendships and travel the world. Over 30 countries later, Wayne returned to his home in 2019 and “officially” retired.
Wayne’s greatest passions were golf and music. He would rather take his clubs on a trip than a suitcase. While he played golf in over 20 countries nothing compared to Twin Rivers Golf Course, and in later years, “teeing it up” at Bally Haly.
Playing in rock bands since he was 13, Wayne had a great love of music. You didn’t have to ask twice to “give us a song, Wayne” – he and his Martin D28 were inseparable – and he played for friends and family, near and far, in his unique and beautiful way. Wayne played the tunes that inspired him – those by John Prine, Bob Dylan, Lenny Gallant and Ron Hynes – they have become our favorites, as well. Wayne cherished his many close friends and the great times had at Thorburn Lake. Retiring and returning home meant he could live life at his own pace and spend time playing with the “Tuesday Music Group”.
The family thanks Drs. Rorke, Downton, Larson and Rogers for their empathy and their professionalism. To the wonderful nurses and staff of 5NA, thank you for the care and compassion shown to Wayne during his stay.
Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Thursday, April 7 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00. Funeral service will be held in Barrett’s Memorial Chapel on Friday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. Masks will be required at all times. The service will be live-streamed, and can be accessed on the Home Page of Barrett’s Funeral Home. To leave a message of condolnece please visist www.barretts.ca.
Expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Community Food Sharing Association, or perform an act of kindness in Wayne’s memory. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer when we’ve had time to grieve and when all family and friends are together in St. John’s.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of change shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sun,
May you stay, forever young.
(Forever Young, Bob Dylan)
