Obituary of Wanda Joan McCreary
McCreary, Wanda Joan (nee Burnett)
Passed away peacefully with the love and support of her family and the caring staff at Rosebridge Manor on December 22, 2022 in her 90th year. Loving wife and best friend of Robert “Bob” McCreary. Beloved mother of Susan (Grant) Niblock, Tom (Felice) McCreary, Jim (Michele) McCreary and the late David McCreary. Cherished grandmother of Thomas “TJ” McCreary, Rob (Ashley) McCreary, Michelle (Mark) Niblock-Purdy, Joel (Caroline) Niblock, Luke (Suzanne) Niblock, Cole (Deanna) McCreary and Trevor McCreary. Wanda was a proud great-grandmother of Ethan, Rose, Myles, Hunter, Logan, and Taevin. She was predeceased by her brother William “Bill” Burnett.
Wanda was born in Toronto to Dr. Clifford and Jean Burnett and was educated in Toronto. She moved with her family to her father’s hometown of Smiths Falls where he established his dental practice. For several years Wanda was his dental assistant. Her parents purchased a beautiful stone home in farming country, where she soon caught the attention of a young farmer who became her husband in 1953. They settled on the McCreary Farm in Kilmarnock, where they built a new home; raised their family and enjoyed their life together for more than 69 years. Along with the daily chores on the farm, Wanda managed the breeding program and care of the Golden Bank Holsteins, while at the same time dedicating her volunteer time at the Smiths Falls Hospital Auxiliary, where she served two terms as President.
In 1992, Wanda and Bob gave up the milking herd, bought a camper and spent the next 20 years exploring Canada coast to coast.
As Wanda’s health began to cause concern Wendy Doherty (whom we consider a second daughter), gradually took over the household management and some of Wanda’s care. This enabled Wanda to remain on her beloved family farm. We will be forever grateful for Wendy’s care in the past and as she continues to help Bob now and in the coming years. All of those that knew Wanda will agree, she will always be remembered for her sweet disposition and her dazzling smile.
Per Wanda’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service at Vandusen Cemetery to be announced in the Spring of 2023. Memorial contributions may be made to the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville.
