DIEDRICKSEN Walter Eugene Henry (Walt)
Passed peacefully at 91 in Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Palliative Unit at 13:10, Nov. 01. Survived by
Sylvia and was married for just short of 65 years. Sons – David and his partner Hyejin, Derek and his
wife Anna; children – Dan and his partner El, Kate and her husband Ty, his close three sisters and
two brothers and their immediate family.
Walt was a man of many interests – as a young man he logged (choker-man), heavy duty mechanic,
pilot (flight instructor doing floatplane endorsements), teacher (Reynolds and Spectrum High
Schools), boater (sail and motor) and logging again (silviculture). He was the ultimate handy man.
We travelled overseas where he taught in colleges in Nigeria and on St Vincent in the Caribbean.
Many friendships were built and these friendships ensured our house was a full and vibrant home.
Walt struggled with Alzheimer’s for six years but to his credit, he did so with such grace and care
for everyone else. He enjoyed being at home with family until his last twelve days when he was
cared for in the Palliative Unit. We cannot express fully our family’s gratitude for the extraordinary
people who helped Walt in his final chapter, no matter how small the effort, we greatly appreciate
your time and care, love to you all.
Walt’s life was full, well lived and will be with us as we proceed.
Please be curious, adventurous, kind, thankful and most of all – have fun!!!
The Diedricksen Family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Walter Walt E H RICKSEN 2022..
