SEHN, WALTER (Wally)
Our dear papa Wally Sehn passed away peacefully at his home in Kelowna, BC, on January 3, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia.
Born November 19, 1935, in Maple Creek, SK, Wally leaves behind Mary, his wife of 65 years, and his little buddy Cooper. He is further survived by son Rick Sehn (grandson Josh), and daughters Kelly Yakiwchuk (husband Rick and grandsons Ryan and Kyle) and Kimberlee Mortenson (husband Bud and grandsons Andrew and Dan).
Wally worked for the City of Kelowna for 37 years before retiring as superintendent of the City’s works yards. He was a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend always ready to help those in need — whether it was shoveling a neighbour’s sidewalk, delivering firewood, or teaching a forgetful grandkid how to make the oil change light go off (by changing the oil).
An avid golfer and skilled curler who remained active in senior men’s curling for many years, Wally was a talented softball player in his youth. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, making the most of what the Okanagan offers in any season. He fostered a love of sports and fair play in each of his grandsons and loved getting out on a golf course with them.
His passion for gardening was evident as bountiful crops from the “tomato king” found their way into the kitchens of family and friends each summer. Papa and Nana always made sure their home was a warm and welcoming place for us all, and friends and neighbours were like family, too.
Wally’s outgoing good nature, generosity, and thoughtfulness are well known to many. His extraordinary presence in our lives will be missed and always remembered.
