Vivian McCordick 19372022

Vivian McCordick
1937-2022
It is with great sadness that her family announces the
passing of Vivian Helen Marie McCordick at Pine Grove Nursing Home in
the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 31st,
after a lengthy brave battle with Alzheimer’s. She passed
peacefully and quietly in her sleep and will be missed by her family
and the masses of friends who loved and adored her.
Vivian was born on October 28th, 1937,
to Hilda and Don Myles, and grew up on the west side of Saint John on
Duke and Prince Streets, attending New Albert School and Saint John
High School. She graduated from the School of Nursing of the Saint
John General Hospital in 1958 and remained life-long friends with her
fellow classmates.
In her youth, she enjoyed family gatherings in Lorneville and
Quispamsis and the frequent trips to Melvern Square, N.S., and
Needham, Mass., to visit family. Always ready to go when her parent
said “Let’s go”.
She first met her future husband, Avery, while he attended
school on the west side, eventually enrolling at Rothesay Collegiate
School and her at Saint John High School. They connected again in
1958, ultimately proving to be a match made in heaven and were married
in September of 1959 by Avery’s father, Canon E.R.
McCordick.
Vivian continued to work as a nurse while Avery went to
University to get his education degree. Eventually adding two children
to their young family, first their daughter Sheri Lynne followed by
Michael Avery. Stays in Maine, Moncton, Newcastle, and Woodstock
followed, making great and long-lasting friendships along the way, no
matter where they found themselves, Florida to Arizona.
Vivian was active in her sorority, was an Anglican Church
woman, worked at the Cornerstone Project, and the Altar Guild.
Wherever and whenever she was needed, she never hesitated to
contribute in any way she could and did so with great enthusiasm and
joy.
Summers were spent in Island Falls, Maine, at the cottage,
walking the old camp road, visiting friends, floating on Pleasant Pond
and welcoming her husband back from his daily rounds of golf. She and
Avery welcomed an endless stream of visitors and guests over the years
and appreciated every one of them, always with open arms and a smile.
Eventually she and Avery settled in at Arbour Brook Lane with the view
of the river that she had always longed for. These were wonderful
times for her and her husband of 59 years and they made most of every
day together, rarely apart from one another during their lives and are
now together again forever, surely a perfect pair.
It was very fortunate to have her as my mother. She and dad,
as they did with everyone, never hesitated to support, console, or
cheer on anyone they knew, myself included. I grew up with endless and
frequent reminders of this whenever people learned that I was their
son. They would effortlessly speak so warmly and genuinely of their
fondness for them. To me it is that kind of regard that people have
for another that ensure that someone’s memories last
forever, it is not the gifts or favours, it is living life with
complete sincerity that ensures that your spirit is everlasting. She
will be greatly missed; however there will always be a part of her
that we can all carry with us.
Love you mom.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on
Friday, June 3rd, 2022 from 4-7pm. A Funeral service will be held at
Christ Church (Parish) Church on Saturday, June 4th, 2022 at 2:00 pm,
with The Venerable John Sharpe, and The Reverend Canon Wandlyn
Snelgrove officiating. A private family interment will follow at
Fredericton Rural Cemetery, after which the family will return to the
reception in the church gym. Masks are required inside the church.
Memorial donations may be left to the Sheri Lynne McCordick Memorial
Bursary Fund at UNB.
