Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Victoria Shewchuk, who passed away at the age of 91.
She was born in the district of MacNutt, Saskatchewan to Eli and Catherine Shewchuk. Victoria was the second youngest of eleven children. She moved later in life to Edmonton and bought a house, where she raised her family. She was a skillful baker and cook, her Ukrainian dinners were thoroughly enjoyed by all. She spent many hours in her beautiful garden and was an incredible seamstress. She was passionate about politics and her community. She worked for the city and campaigned for Peter Lougheed and the Conservatives. She was an active member of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church and sang in the church choir which even brought her group to Australia and the Philippines to perform.
In 2000 she moved to Calgary to be closer to her grandchildren. Spending holidays in Mexico visiting family and friends. She loved the occasional shot of tequila and sharing a good laugh. Victoria was devoted to her family and was always there to lend an ear, offering a hug and sharing her wisdom. Her generosity, captivating sense of humour, big heart, and bright smile were her greatest attributes, and will be fondly remembered by everyone that was blessed to know her.
Victoria was predeceased by her father, Eli, and her mother, Catherine. Her sisters Mary, Margaret, Sophie, and her brothers, Johnny, Mike, Bill, Alex, and Peter.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Dennis (Sandie) Sorochuk, Marvie Giordano, Cheryl (Dorian) Landon-Snyder, Isabel (Rob) Christian; her grandchildren Kindra (Matt) Delaney, Jason (Brandie) Sorochuk, Nicholas (Amanda) Giordano, Kathryn Giordano; her great-grandchildren Madison, Savanna, Emma, Brooklyn, Caiden, Charlotte and her sisters Elsie and Doris.
