Vicky Maul 1929 2022

Obituary of Vicky Maul
Vera (“Vicky”) Margaret Evelina Maul, nee Davis
April 20, 1929 – April 11, 2022
Vera, fondly known as Vicky caught her favourite red double-decker bus to Heaven on April 11, 2022 at 3:06pm. While waiting to depart she was surrounded by love. Our Mum was like a music box that played in strong song and then simply had to naturally unwind.
Vera was born April 20, 1929 in Ponders End, a hamlet in Enfield parish, Middle, England. As an 11 year old she was billeted during the Blitz to Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire for a short period of time, returning home to help her Mum sew items for the soldiers, who had lost her voice while her daughter was away.
Our Mum came to Canada in her early 20’s, married Charles (Chuck) Alvin Maul (1989), (a Pilot Officer within the RCAF’s 423 squadron who enlisted in 1941) and lived in her husband built, matrimonial home for over 64 years. She will be missed by her son David Charles (Anne) and grandchildren Lauren and Catherine; daughter Wendy (Lorne) and great grandchild Joshua. Predeceased by her grandson David Andrew (2017).
Predeceased by her father William Hartnoll Davis and her brother Reginald before she left England with her mother Dorothy Agnes Davis, nee Ward, both immigrating to Vicky’s beloved St. Catharines in 1952. Here they joined Vera’s sister Eileen (1987) and brother-in-law Charles (1982). Sadly Vera’s Mum died 6 months after their arrival to Canada. Both her Mum and Sister called her Vera.
Vicky’s love of singing and tap dancing started when she was 5 years old and she didn’t stop until she was in her early 90’s. Vicky was a Girl Guide Leader, member of the St. Giles Presbyterian Church, active in Ladies Aid and the choir. She was a tireless volunteer with Praise Singers, Sunshine Singers and Chapel Singers. She was a member of the Diamond Dancers and tap danced with her fellow members for over 20 years and was an active participant in stage plays conducted by Garden City Productions and Curtains Up. Vicky gave over 500 pints of blood to the Red Cross and was a volunteer at Ina Grafton. Vicky swam pool laps daily until her late 80’s in her back yard pool.
Auntie Vera as a loved Aunt to Jan, Kim (2013), Richard, Elizabeth and Chris will be fondly remembered. Elizabeth’s prayer time on the eve of our Mum’s passing was spent with her Auntie Vera and as she was quietly contemplating, Elizabeth had such a clear sense that our Mum’s life was slowly ending and the call was simply to let it be. Elizabeth thought of music boxes and how you need to just let them unwind and finish their song. Our Mum certainly was a music box full of life and melody, twirling and dancing.
Vicky and “fun” went hand in hand. She was also up for a “lark” with an “anything goes” attitude. One of her favourite sayings was “you’ve just gotta laugh”. She loved life, her family, friends, travelling, animals (especially furry ones) and babies.
The family would like to thank the Waterford Long Term Care Home staff for their dedication and dignity provided in the health and happiness of our Mum for the last few years. We also thank Kristen, the music lady and Maryse, Vicky’s friendly visitor.
Cremation has taken place. A Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 (Vicky and Chuck’s 68th wedding anniversary) at 1:00pm at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lincoln County Humane Society or to a charity of your choice.
