Obituary of Veronica ‘Snookie’ Gaetan, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Veronica Josephine ‘Snookie’ Gaetan, 82, on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Feruicco ‘Freddie’ and Gioconda (Gatto) Gaetan.
Snookie worked at White’s Bakery and drove for Service Taxi for several years. She loved her horses and enjoyed going to the races at Tartan Downs, Inverness Raceway and Red Shores in PEI. She also loved playing cards and took part in many tarabish games with her group, Christy Burke, Julie Gaetan, and Kim Lafort. Snookie was always know for her infectious smile and was most passionate about her family and friends. To her, this was everything.
Surviving are daughters, Christine (Jerome) Burke and Shelly Boutilier; brothers, Benny (Julie), Guido (Marion), John (Cathy), Michael; sisters, Rosie Casagrande, Gloria (Doug) Peach, Eva (John) Burke; grandchildren, Emberly, Gail, David, Nicole, Emerson, Debra, David, Shawn, Kyle; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Makayla, Mya, Preston, Keira, Jace, Rylan, Gavin, Mason, Noah, Emersyn, Madison, and Lincoln; sister-in-law, Mary Gaetan; special friend, Kim Leforte, who was like a daughter.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah; son, Emerson; sister-in-law, Marguerite (Michael); son-in-law, John Boutilier; brother-in-law, Ermanno (Rosie).
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
