Vernon’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and much love that the family of Vernon Chaffey announce his passing on January 29, 2022 at the age of 89 years.
Vernon is survived by his wife Evelyn Chaffey of Stephenville, NL. His son Paul Chaffey of Stephenville NL. Daughters Charlene Chaffey – Keays (Gary) of Okotoks AB, Carolyn Chaffey (Geir Nerheim) of St. Johns NL, Christine Wagner (Bernd) of Cochrane AB.
Vernon was loved and adored by his grandchildren Mandy Burnie, Alexander Keays, Victoria King, Cody Fisher, Isabella Wagner, Steven Nerheim and great grandchildren Benjamin & Cameron Burnie.
Vernon was born in St. David’s NL on November 19, 1932 after completing High School Vernon went on to attend trade school in St. John’s where he studied Auto Mechanics.
Upon returning to St. David’s Vernon met his future wife Evelyn Shears from Robinsons and married her in June of 1956.
Vernon was many things in his life but foremost he was a business man and enjoyed the challenges that arose from that pursuit.
Vernon loved his family with deep conviction and all of our mother’s siblings as well. He also tried to employ some of them when the occasion arose if he could help. Anyone that met Vernon quickly recognized and enjoyed his humor.
Vernon left a lasting impression on all that spent time with. He will be sadly missed by his family, Evelyn’s family and his many dear friends that he so enjoyed spending time with.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital that cared for Vernon over the years. Also a thank you to the staff at Crosswinds for your kindness and compassion.
It is the family’s decision to return in the summer to celebrate Vernon’s life surrounded by family and friends.
Vernon loved cars, fishing, cheetos, candy, a good Clint Eastwood Movie and his chair by the fire place.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
