Vernon passed away on February 24, 2022, at the age of 67. He is survived by his siblings: Calvin, Heather, Jim (Lynda), Val (Brian), Marcia (Rob), Cynthia (Marc) Stuart, his nieces Chloe and Del and Kristin and Ashley.
Vernon was predeceased by his parents, Sylvester Larned Hunt, Cora May Hunt and his sister Carol Anne Hunt.
Vernon was born at Old Grace Hospital in Winnipeg and grew up in St. Charles, attending St. Charles Elementary School and Sansome Junior High. At Sansome Junior High, he was given an award for eight years of perfect school attendance. Vern was always proud of the watch he received.
After high school, Vernon started work at Headingly Gaol as a correctional officer. Unfortunately, he was in attendance when the riot of 1996 broke out. The incident was so traumatic he spent his final years working at Manitoba Justice in an administrative capacity, retiring in 2011.
His brothers and sisters will always be grateful Vern was able to be mum’s primary caregiver for the final years of her life, ensuring she was able to stay in her home, feel comfortable and safe.
Vernon’s health declined rapidly over the past 12 months. He is now at peace, watching a Jets game with mum.
At his request, no funeral service will be held. A family gathering to scatter his ashes is planned in the spring.
