Vernon Chubby O’Blenes 2022

Vernon “Chubby” O’Blenes
Arrangements are in the
care of Salisbury Funeral Home (372-4800). Due to Covid-19 and
restrictions at the time of Vernon’s passing on June 30,
2020, a celebration of life will be held for Vernon “Chubby”
O’Blenes on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 2:30pm from Fair
Haven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Lloyd O’Blenes presiding.
All are welcome.
O’BLENES, Vernon Arthur, 79 of
Salisbury, passed away peacefully on June 30. Born on May 19, 1941 in
Salisbury, NB, he was the son of the late Christie and Edna (McLeod)
O’Blenes. Known to most as Chubby, Vernon is loved and
missed by his daughter Rhonda, grand-daughter Kathleen, and
great-grandson Cedar, of Salisbury; daughter Angela Therriault (Tom),
grandchildren Robin, Emily, Erin, and Katherine, of Kitchener, ON;
sister Florence Allen and brothers Freeman (Diane), Austin (Wendy), of
Moncton, and Lloyd (Jackie) of The Glades; many nieces, nephews, and
cousins. In addition to his parents, Vernon was predeceased
by his brother Leo; sisters Lavetta MacEachern, Kathleen, Beulah,
Eleanor, and Pauline.
Vernon was a truck driver until his health forced
him into retirement. If he wasn’t in the backyard tinkering
with something, you would find him having supper at the Salisbury Big
Stop, or returning from a trip to Princess Auto – the staff at both
places were as much his family as any of us.
If trucking wasn’t his first
love, it was second only to music. Vernon played the guitar, mouth
organ, and accordion. The guitar was his favourite and he never met
one he couldn’t tune by ear. He enjoyed playing for family,
friends, and local fans. He loved old country, bluegrass, and country
gospel – anything else was just noise.
Over the last couple of years, he was
content with a coffee and a Tim Horton Maple Pecan danish, while
providing commentary during Blue Jay and Maple Leaf games. He enjoyed
calls and visits from family and friends, especially when they arrived
with a dog or a guitar.
Special thanks to doctors Jamie Stewart,
Andrew Clark, and Marc Dorval and the countless nurses and hospital
employees for their compassion and care over the years and to the
staff at both Golden Years Estate and Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial home
for the care you provided over the last year.
If desired, donations in memory of
Vernon can be made to Friends of the Moncton Hospital, Cornerstone
Community Church (Wheaten Settlement), or a charity of
choice.
