Vernett Vern Smith 1932 2022

The family of Vernett (Vern) Smith sadly
announces his death at Fredericton’s Pine Grove Nursing Home
on May 28, 2022. Vern was born on August 14, 1932, at Wicklow, NB, son
of the late Beulah Tapley and Hughlett
Smith.
Vern is survived by his wife Terry, their
children Peter (Sue), David (Maureen), Jamey (Betsy), and Ann
(Christian), along with their grandchildren Tim, Jamey, Anna, Gabby,
Jonas, Eli, Seamus, Sydney, Eric, and Jacqui. Also surviving are his
sister Muriel, brothers Sharpe (Betty), Glad (Cathy), sisters-in-law
Jean and Ruth. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by
brothers Aubrey and Ashael, and brother-in-law Al
Main.
Dad was a devoted father and grandfather,
proudly enjoying his young families. His positive acceptance of
on-going changes while living with Parkinson’s for over 20
years was always inspirational.
Dad and Mum made many wonderful memories with
their children, grandchildren, and friends at their long-time camp at
Crabbe Mountain and at the campsite in Saint Andrews, Vern’s
“home town”.
Vern enjoyed a long career with NB Power, and
in retirement he continued to take pleasure in many hobbies and
activities. He was an Amateur Radio Operator (VE9VS), a Beekeeper, and
a Provincial Honey Inspector. Vern was a dedicated founding member of
the Fredericton Trails Coalition. Spending time with grandchildren,
skiing, camping, canoeing, fishing, biking, hiking, and woodworking
were among his favourite
passtimes.
Our family is very grateful for the exceptional
care given by staff at Pine Grove Nursing Home, and by our physicians
over the years.
Arrangements are in the care of
Bishop’s Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00
pm on July 16, 2022 at Holy Family Church (St. Kateri Tekakwitha
Parish), 1500 Hanwell Road, Fredericton.
For those considering a donation,
Vern’s favourite charities were the Fredericton Greener
Village, the Fredericton Homeless Shelters, and the Pine Grove
Foundation.
On-line condolences are welcomed on
Bishop’s Funeral Home’s
website.
