Vera was born on a farm outside of Oakwood, Ontario. At the age of three she moved to Oshawa, Ontario where she obtained her public schooling before moving to Beaverton, Ontario where she attended high school for two years, leaving school she ventured to Toronto and Hamilton to work. In 1942, she married Cecil Ira Terry in Beaverton and came to Levack where Cecil was employed.
Loving wife of Cecil Ira Terry (predeceased 1981). Loving mother of Mervin Stanley Terry (predeceased 2007). Grandmother to Shelly Terry-Eves (Greg) of Sydenham. Great-grandmother to Tyler and Shelby Eves. Great-Great Grandmother to Grayson Eves. Grandmother to Andy McKenzie of Ottawa and Karen McKenzie of Sudbury. Daughter of the later Andrew and Harriet (Florence) (Sheehy) Taylor both predeceased. Loving sister of James Taylor (Betty) both predeceased.
Vera’s volunteer work was her life’s accomplishments. She started out in her own local United Church teaching the Explorer group, then attending the U.C.W. group, and a member of the Board of Stewards and Trustee. She went farther afield as a delegate to Sudbury Presbyterian of the United Church. With the newly formed Manitou Conference in 1975, she took on different positions. She was the first President of Manitou Conference United Church Women. After her term in office, she became Treasurer for a number of years. Past President of Sudbury Presbyterian U.C.W., Past President of the Onaping Falls Credit Union, then a Director on the Board of Sudbury Credit Union. Chairperson of the Onaping Falls Hamper Committee for over forty years. Envelope Stewart at her local church for many years and President of the U.C.W. of which she was a lifetime member.
Funeral Service at the St. John’s United Church, Levack, Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 11:30am. Interment in the family plot at Ston Church Cemetery in Beaverton. Friends may call at the church after 10:30am Thursday. In lieu of flowers donations to St. John’s United Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Lougheed Funeral Home.
