It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Vera Gladys Pollock, in Victoria, BC on July 13th, 2022.
Predeceased by her husband of 31 years, William Charlie Pollock in 1993 and her great-grandson, Alex William Hunter Menzel in 2011; Survived by her children, Pat (Kevin) Macdonald, Maryanne McKinnon and Bruce (Darcy) Pollock; grandchildren, Brittany, Adam, Melanie, Jonathon, Melissa, Nikki and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Mika, Aurora, Tavis, Charlie and Violet as well as nieces and nephews in Saskatchewan.
Vera was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan and during her school years, she achieved top in her class in athletics and academics. She attended Normal School in the summer of 1945 and started teaching in rural areas of Saskatchewan at the young age of 17. Ahead of her time, Vera was a young single woman with a career of her own, involved in church, curling and singing in a quartet. Vera was particularly proud of the cars she owned; 1950 Anglia, 1953 Consul, 1955 Chevrolet, 1957 Meteor and a 1960 Chev Bel Aire.
Vera and Charlie, who shared birthdays, were married in 1961 and had 3 children by 1966. As Charlie was involved in logging in many areas of BC, the family followed. This was not always an easy life but we always had each other and Mom was our rock. We all benefited from her loyalty, selfless dedication, hard work, and her resourceful and thrifty ways.
In 1989, Vera and Charlie retired in Victoria, BC where they enjoyed travelling on the island and spending time with family. When Charlie passed in 1993, we were blessed to have Vera live with family for most of the next chapter of her life. She was a collector, enjoyed all kinds of puzzles, the Blue Jays and was a long-suffering Canuck fan, keeping stats and following their progress since 1972.
Vera spent the last 3 years of her life as a resident of Beckley Farm Lodge where she touched the lives of the wonderful people there. We are all thankful for their kindness, love and care.
Mom has always been our wise, patient, sensible, honest, loving, caring, genuine, no-nonsense confidant. She lived a simple, content life with her strong faith in knowing that “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..” She has left us all with her love and the greatest gift of each other. She will be forever missed and never forgotten.
A private Celebration of Life will take place on what would have been her 95th birthday and Dad’s 106th birthday in September, 2022.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
