Of Hantsport, passed away peacefully at home, on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 105. She was the daughter of the late Abner Arlington and Georgia Kathryn (Riley) Kirkpatrick.
Whether baking or vacuuming her home, she looked and felt her best in dresses, heels and classic red lipstick. Her warm smile, quick humour and contagious laughter infused much joy and delight into every situation. Maxine conducted herself with grace and dignity. She was a faithful member of the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Hantsport.
Throughout their 74 years of marriage, John and Maxine had many adventures together and enjoyed traveling to learn about other cultures and people. They visited parts of Asia, Europe, Brazil and much of the United States. Summers were spent on Shaw Island, Chester. Maxine could be found picking blueberries, and making jams, jellies and biscuits for her family or practicing her ballroom dance moves with John. During winter they enjoyed traveling to the small volcanic island of Montserrat. They found much happiness in each other’s company, gardening, golfing and swimming. Maxine was extremely proud of John when he was inducted into the Order of Canada in February 2000, as a Companion of Merit and the role she played in helping him achieve such an honour.
Maxine is survived by her son, Bruce (Martha) Jodrey; daughter, Kathryn Porter; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, John; son, Thomas Jodrey and brother, Barclay Kirkpatrick.
The family would like to thank Heart to Heart, Chester and the kind caregivers who travelled to Hantsport to care for Maxine, including Cheryl Mahaney, Tanya Park, and many others. Dr. Akinniyi Osho, Dr. Howard Conter, Dr. Cathryn Smith and Dr. Iona Wile provided many years of excellent healthcare, going above and beyond whenever they were needed. Finally, Mr. Allan Keeping whose loyalty, dedication and financial acumen kept the family finances and business ledgers in fine form for many decades.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private visiting, followed by a private funeral service celebrating Maxine’s life will be held in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating (masks are encouraged). A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private family burial will follow in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. Donations in memory of Maxine may be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, PO Box 52, Hantsport, NS B0P 1P0.
