With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of Dan Turgeon, our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son and dear friend on September 9 2022, at the age of 69.
He was predeceased by his parents, Aime Turgeon and Velma Menard, and his sister Delores Turgeon.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Corinne Turgeon, his children Tamara Osmak, Tom (Cayley) Turgeon, Trista (Justin) Hegnauer; his grandchildren Cameron, Keira, Addison, Cohen, Dylan and William; his sisters Therese (Lenard) Desjarlais, Lucy O’Connell, Janice (Pedro Villanueva) Di Leo and Cheryl Menard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Dan was the rock in our family, the glue that held us all together, and the smartest man we knew. Dan may have appeared to have a rough exterior, but to his core his soul was kind and gentle. He had a genuine soft spot when it came to children, especially his grandchildren. He would light up when he heard the words Grandpa, Papa, or Dad. Dan was truly the most selfless, jovial, generous and hard working man. The morning Dan’s illness first struck, despite feeling incredibly ill, his first priority was his school bus run. He couldn’t leave those kids waiting at their bus stops with no one coming. He had to get those kids to school, and Dan made sure that happened. Anyone that was blessed to know Dan just knew he had the biggest heart. He now leaves behind the broken hearts of family and friends, a void that can never be filled. Dan has given us many wonderful memories to cherish and hold onto as we move through this difficult time.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11:00am at St Michaels Catholic Church in Leduc, AB, with lunch provided afterwards in the church basement. A prayer service will be held Thursday September 15, 2022 at 7:00pm. All are welcome to come celebrate his life.
Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the entire staff at the University of Alberta Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their kindness, support and exceptional care provided to Dan.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan’s honour may be made directly to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton AB.
