Trent Thompson
1972 – 2022
September 28, 1972 ~ August 11, 2022
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Trent David Thompson on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the age of 49 years.
Trent was born on September 28, 1972, to David and Doreen Thompson. He was raised on the family farm by Bracken, SK., with his older sisters, Janice and Laureen. As a child Trent was always so happy and positive. He was a very active person who enjoyed being outside. Starting from a young age, he was interested in anything with a motor. Eventually, motorbiking and snowmobiling became main hobbies of his. Trent attended Climax School for elementary and junior high school and Frontier School for high school. His best times during junior and senior high school involved having fun with people and making them laugh, which he did often. As a teenager he became a steady help with seeding, harvesting and all aspects of grain farming. Trent very much enjoyed living on the farm and his greatest joy was helping with the farming.
Trent took the Civil Engineering Technology program at SIAST in Moose Jaw, completing his co-op work terms doing soil, asphalt and concrete testing for subdivisions in Calgary with EBA. He pursued this career as a supervisor of concrete testing for grain terminals built in Trochu, Swift Current and Gull Lake. In his early twenties, Trent returned to his true passion and rented the family farmland to farm with his parents and eventually on his own when they moved to Medicine Hat in 2000. During this time he completed the schooling and flying hours to receive his private pilot’s license. He also bought a quarter of ranchland by Longview, Alberta, flying his plane back and forth between his two places, farmed rented land by Beaver Valley and started custom combining. In 2014, he retired from farming to live in Longview, continuing to custom combine and custom spraying as well.
Trent was a very hard worker but he did take time to enjoy his greatest winter pastime: snowmobiling. He went on a snowmobile trip to Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan with friends and on various trips to the mountains with his mountain sled, including one with his dad. Trent very much enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbours, as well as meeting new people, and friends, family, adults and children alike, knew Trent to be the life of the party with his humour, good stories and fun attitude. If a friend needed help, Trent was there.
Trent suffered from mental health issues for much of his adult years and it is this struggle that eventually led to the abrupt end to his life. He was predeceased by his grandparents, David and Mable Thompson and Hilda and Theodore Doetzel. Trent leaves to mourn his parents, David and Doreen; sisters, Janice (Trevor) Zerff and their daughters, Amy and Amara, and Laureen (Glen) Sandin and their sons, Ashton, Jaden, Mathias and Lukas and his friends.
A memorial for family and friends to honour Trent’s life will be held at Whiskey Creek, 937 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
