Timothy O’Sullivan December 17 1948 May 1 2022

O’SULLIVAN, Timothy William (Tim) following a valiantly fought battle succumbed peacefully on the morning of Sunday, May 1, 2022. Predeceased by father, William O’Sullivan (1971), mother Betty Mulock O’Sullivan Wood (2002) and brother-in-law Andre G. Roy (2016). Beloved favourite (yes, only!) brother of Maureen O’Sullivan Roy.
Dear friend of Roy Csordas, Theresa Wedekind, CarrieAnne Hunter, Tina Auger, Captain Tim, the Allen family, David Burtch, Annette Maloney and many others too numerous to mention. Tim was a lifelong social justice advocate who worked tirelessly towards making communities more welcoming places for all people. He was an executive member of the Welland Chapter of People First Ontario. He sat on the original Council of Community Living Ontario. He attended numerous regional, provincial and international conferences in pursuit of finding ways to make communities inclusive for everyone. Tim attended the inaugural meeting of the Family Engagement Advisory Committee at Community Living Ontario and contributed significantly to numerous events over the years. He celebrated as a guest at Queen’s Park when the government apologized for the egregious harm done to people in the large provincially run institutions. Tim’s father and grandfather were professional firefighters and Tim was born with the firefighter gene. He volunteered with various Fire Departments over the years. Tim was invited to be the Honorary Parade Marshall for the parade and fire muster on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Welland Professional Firefighters Association and proudly rode in the lead fire truck. Then he found his niche with Pelham Fire Department #2. He spent many happy hours attending training sessions and business meetings and just enjoying being part of the Brotherhood. Tim was a devoted church member. He contributed his presence to a number of congregations over the years. He found his spiritual home at Rice Road Community Church. His role as an enthusiastic greeter highlighted his knack for making his fellow church-goers feel most welcome. Tim was a traveller. He enjoyed summer getaways at the Pickerel River and winter trips to Orlando, including a special birthday-Christmas cruise. He enjoyed weekends in Toronto for theatre and in Niagara Falls to take in the sights, Ottawa for the Tulip Festival and Port Perry for the Canadian Firefighters Museum among many others. Tim was an active member of the Welland Community Wellness Centre. He spent many happy hours hanging out with old friends and making new acquaintances. Tim was a journaller. He recorded many of life’s important moments in his vast collection of journals. You knew you were an honoured confidante if he invited you to write an entry. Tim loved music, all things Irish and birthday parties. Those things combined made for many happy celebrations with family and friends. Tim and Maureen wish to express our thanks for the friendship and support of so many fellow travelers and guides who have been part of our life’s journey. Thanks to all who provided support during the last four months following Tim’s battle with Covid – PSW’s, nurses, doctors, and caring and compassionate members of the Niagara Palliative Care Outreach Team, especially Krystal. Our heartfelt gratitude defies words for all of our beloved companions at Community Living Welland Pelham, Jo and Donald, and most especially those at Rollins Drive, Tim’s home for 30 years. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held at Rice Road Community Church, 305 Rice Road, Welland on Friday, May 6, at 6:00. Visitation and Fellowship will follow in the Church Hall 6:45 – 8:00. In lieu of flowers, Tim and Maureen would appreciate donations to Community Living Welland Pelham (call Theresa at 905-735-0081×208) or Rice Road Community Church (riceroadcc.ca/giving) or at the Service on Friday.
