Obituary of TIBOR KAROLY BODA
TIBOR KAROLY BODA
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father and papa Tibor Boda on Thursday, December 1st, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife Maria, his parents Lajos and Eszter and his four siblings Lajos, Irene, Eva and Gyula.
To celebrate his life, he leaves behind his loving children, Tibor (Rozsa), Sylvia (Jed): grandchildren- Eva, Tibor III, Mark, Evan (Katie), sister- in law Katalin (Nick) & Nick Jr.
He also leaves behind in Hungary his brother Laci and his sisters Marta, Edit and Kati. He will be lovingly remembered by family members Melissa (Tom), Rosie (AJ) and great grandson Connor who loved Papa so much and as well by numerous nieces-nephews and friends throughout Canada, United States and Hungary.
Tibor was born in Bercel, Hungary on July 1st, 1936. He was the middle of 9 children. It was during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 that our father and mother decided to leave their beloved Hungary and friends and start their young married lives in the free country of Canada. Dad was very proud to be Canadian and especially since “All of Canada celebrates my birthday” he would say with a smile. His ability to tell funny stories and make everyone laugh was unique.
At our family gatherings he loved to play his harmonica and his love of music shone through. He spent many occasions on the dance floor with mom, The kitchen or living room was our dance floor. Our family spent many wonderful years at our cottage in Belair in the seventies and built many lifelong friendships.
Our parents were very involved in the Hungarian community, everyone knew Boda Tibor & Marika. They were both members of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church and the Hungarian Kapisztran Folk Ensemble of Winnipeg, singing in the choir. They were also involved in the Hungarian theatre club. Dad loved to sing and perform. Dad and Mom were also founding members of the Magyar (Hungarian) Haz (House). During the months of June & July Dad would be busy preparing for Folklorama baking his famous delicious kremes dessert. He also graciously made them for church dinners and many other functions. He was also a Mayor, Pavilion Coordinator and Ambassador for the Hungarian pavilion.
They loved to travel together and go on many “gambling” bus trips to the casinos. Dad was also a huge coffee drinker at any time of the day. Before you could ask “Would anyone like any coffee, he would have his hand up “Yes please, me!” After mom passed away it became more difficult for dad to stay in the house. He resided at Concordia Village for 6 years. This move came with lots of resistance but he eventually settled in. He was definitely a social butterfly and took part in social activities when he could. He would even sing in the choir during the Christmas concerts and sang solo his first few months there. He was never good at remembering names but the ladies didn’t mind when he would address them as dear, sweetheart or darling.
At the beginning of this year Dad was transferred to Kildonan Personal Care Home where he made new friends and charmed many ladies. Throughout his time, he never complained. When asked how he felt, he would always reply, I’m okay, I’m good. He never wanted to bother anyone.
Our family would like to Thank all the doctors, nurses, caregivers who have taken care of our dear Father throughout his illness and to Father Dado who gave him spiritual guidance and care.
We would like to thank all our friends and family for their continued support throughout and during this difficult time. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Tibor’s memory may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Society.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Hungarian Roman Catholic Church, 365 Burnell Street. Officiating the mass will be Father Diosdado Parrenas and Father Darrin Gurr.
