Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of Tom De Forge announces his passing after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Frank and Margaret (Sweetman) and brother Frank. His is survived by his loving wife Peggy, sons Ryan (Janine), David (Angie; Alex, Lacey & Jack), step-sons Matt, Shawn (Ladina) and granddaughters Annie and Emily. He is also survived by sisters, Susan (Chuck), Terri (Larry), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Tom was born in Peterborough, Ontario, where he graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, later moving to London/Ilderton Ontario where he obtained his Bachelor of Nursing Degree. In the early 90’s, Tom made a career change and became an instructor at the Ontario Fire College in Gravenhurst, Ontario, where he earned his Master’s of Education Degree. Tom was also a dairy goat farmer for several years. In 2011, Tom retired and he and Peggy moved west and settled in Clive, Alberta.
Tom was an active member of various community groups including the Knights of Columbus in Ontario and Alberta, Clive Lions Club, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Scouts Canada, Muskoka Men of Song, and the Ilderton, Ontario Volunteer Fire Department, where he had been fire chief for several years. In recent years, Tom was also the Director of Emergency Management for the Village of Clive.
Tom had a special place in many people’s hearts and he will be remembered fondly as a wonderful husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
There will be a funeral mass at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Lacombe on Saturday, August 27th at 10:30 am, followed by a luncheon immediately after the service at St. Andrew’s United Church, Lacombe.
