Thomas Roger Del Bosco

Roger was born in Rouyn, Quebec and moved to Sudbury, Ontario as a teenager. He was the second of seven children born to Teresa and Armando Del Bosco.
He was very close to his siblings William, Armando, Elizabeth Royer, Arthur – all
predeceased and Victor and Donald. Roger also had a special bond with his many cousins and
brothers-in-law Bruno and Gino Pin.
Roger was the loving, caring husband of Maria and cherished father of Andrea (Byron Holland), Thomas (Tanja Neuvonen), and Anthony (Lynda Cowan). He was also loved by his grandsons Jesse and Aaron Holland as well as many nieces and nephews who he loved spending time with at the family camp at Kukagami Lake (Koki).
In 1957, he bought a piece of land with his friends Ed Kusnierczyk and Roy Pella on Kukagami Lake. Accessing the land by boat, he harvested the trees on the property to construct the camp…all at the age of 24. Koki was a sacred place for Roger. He loved being there either on his own, or surrounded by his family and friends, and could be found there every weekend puttering away at some project. He could construct or repair anything – be it a boat or a wooden toy for his grandchild.
There was always room at the table, and no one ever left the house or camp hungry. Roger and Maria’s place was always open to the many friends, family and kids who dropped by. You could not leave without having had salami, cheese, fruit and a glass of wine.
Roger grew up playing hockey, and in 1955 he was offered a scholarship at the University of Denver. His skating was effortless, and he continued to play hockey well into his 60’s. He instilled his sense of reverence for hockey in his sons, as he would say that you must respect the other team, because without them there would be no game. Always active, in the winter months he enjoyed skating at Queen’s Athletic Skating Oval and cross-country skiing, along with mountain biking and sailing in the summer.
He was the consummate outdoorsman. In the fall the family camp was transformed into the home base for his brothers and friends for moose hunting season. The relationships and stories that were solidified during these trips are timeless. He had a deep respect for the game he hunted, and the surrounding natural environment.
A career Land Surveyor, Roger held a passion for his profession and the challenges that it presented. Working outdoors, calculating distances often in harsh environments; this was where Roger thrived.
He was known as ‘Uncle Rog’ to his many nieces and nephews, as well as the children of his extended family of close friends at Koki. He was a social center in a quiet and unassuming way and would be at ease among a group of family or friends or sit quietly for hours watching for moose while hunting. Roger held a quality of character that was steadfast and unwavering.
He has left us. The journey of Alzheimer’s is understood by few. For those that helped us through these heartbreaking times, know that we are forever grateful and will never forget you.
