Obituary
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, son, brother and uncle, Tom Coombs, Tuesday September 27th 2022 at the age of 64 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital surrounded by his family and tons of love.
He leaves to mourn, with the most beautiful memories possible, the two loves of his life, his wife Carol Ann (Hutchings) and his daughter Janis (Andrew Watt). Also leaving to mourn his mother Gladys, brothers and sister Paul Coombs, Gary Coombs, Shawn Coombs and Cindy Coombs (Howie Penny). His mother in law Anne Thistle and brothers and sisters in law Vivian Reid (Gary), Dave Hutchings (Norma), John Hutchings (Mary) Paul Hutchings (late Shelly) and Lorraine Abbott (Ken) as well as a large extended family. He will also be greatly missed by a large circle of friends including his Kinsmen friends, his Press Club dart buddies, his poker buddies as well as his former colleagues and students from the College of the North Atlantic. He will be especially missed by his lifetime friend and Harley riding buddy Glen Tucker, his close friend Greg Barnes and long-time friends and special neighbors Tony and Anne Solo.
He was predeceased by his father Tom, Baby sister Donna, sister Debbie, sister in law Michelle and father in law Kevin Hutchings.
Tom was loved by many due to his sense of humor, warm personality and giving heart. He had a passion for life and adventure having travelled the world, teaching in the Middle East, and through his geological expeditions in the tablelands mountains, one of his favorite places on earth. But most of all he loved his motorcycle adventures on his Harley, his prized possession which he dreamed of owning his entire life.
He was a dedicated teacher, educating thousands of students in sciences throughout his career. He was most passionate in geology and loved bringing his students on field trips to search for fossils and geological treasures.
Tom was also a dedicated Kinsmen and was proud to have received his Kinsman life membership after 20 years of service to the community. He volunteered for many Kinsmen fundraisers during his service in the club as well as taking part in fundraisers for the MS Society of Canada, Ride for Dad, and many years volunteering for the Corner Brook Soccer Association.
Of all the passions Tom had the thing he was most passionate about was being a loving husband, father and son. Tom’s dedication to his family was unsurpassed. He did everything and anything within his power to ensure that his loved ones were cared for and knew the immense love he felt for them.
We would like to thank the staff of the Western Memorial Cancer clinic, Doctor Brazil and Staff of the WMRH ICU unit for their loving care in his final days.
Per Tom’s request, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at the Press Club on Union Street at a date to be announced later.
As expressions of sympathy the family is requesting donations be made to Myeloma Canada in the link below. www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/myeloma-canada/
The most loving man we’ll ever know, in our hearts forever.
