Theresa (Byrne) Wall passed away peacefully at home and in the presence of her family on July 28, in her 94th year. Theresa was born and raised in Corner Brook and spent her life there, raising her own family there in turn.
Theresa was born on November 5, 1928 of Joseph and Louise (Buckle) Byrne, one of the early families to settle in Corner Brook, and was the last born of 16 children. She married the love of her life, Walter Wall of Holyrood, on October 13, 1952 and was a resident of Dorchester Avenue for 67 years. She was an active member of the community and a faithful neighbour, contributing to the Catholic Women’s League, CNIB Ladies Auxiliary, the Girl Guides, the Silver Blades Figure Skating Club and many other causes over the years. She began her career with the CBC and the National Film Board as a young woman and returned to the workforce when her children were grown, after 25 years as a full-time mother. Her initiative, humour and common sense made a contribution to everything she put her hand to. She was a talented pianist, proud of her Royal Conservatory of Music grades, and she also loved to knit.
Theresa was predeceased by Walter, her parents, and her siblings and their spouses – Jack, George (Bridget), Arthur, Florence (Victor), Bernard, Mona (Harold), Marie, Frank (Sheila), Ned, Joe (Patricia), Kevin (Audrey), Raymond, Gerald (Ula), Jim (Margaret), and Bill (Myrtle). She also mourned the loss of nephews Cyril Byrne and Thomas O’Reilly and niece Marie (Byrne) Grosse, as well as her sister-in-law Frances (nee Wall) (Joseph) Squires.
She leaves to mourn her children and children-in-law (Gregory and Cecilia, Mary Lou and Paul, Helen and Paul, Clare and John, Colette and Jerome, Frances Marie and Gerard, and John and Barbara); granddaughters Natalie (Trevor), Erin (David), and Laura (Peter), Lisa (Gordon), Janice (Jordan), Sarah Lynn (Evan), Leslie, Andrea (Greg), Ashley (Joel) and Skylar; grandsons Mark (Bernice), Patrick (Kourtney), Jonathan (Victoria) and Lachlan; and great-grandchildren Avery, Noah, Paige, Beatrice, Eleanor, Dallon, Alex, Austin, Amelia, Charlie, Ethan, Rhys, Emery Rose, Cameron, Olivia, Sadie, Jack, Ben, Ivy and just this month, Wren. To be with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – in person, on Facebook or Zoom – was her greatest delight until her final days. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place in St. John’s at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 2, to be followed by a prayer service. The prayer service will be livestreamed at vimeo.com/734745882
Theresa’s life will also be celebrated in Corner Brook, with a visitation to take place at 14 Dorchester Avenue from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 7 and her funeral taking place at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer on Monday, August 8 at 10:00 am, to be followed by internment at Townsite Roman Catholic Cemetery.
The funeral service will be live streamed. starting at 9:45 a.m. which can be accessed by visiting Country Haven Funeral Home on Facebook.

David Coleman and Mari-Lynne Sinnott for their personal and supportive attention. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to the Western Regional Hospital Foundation for the Audiology Department (www.canadahelps.org/CharityProfilePage.aspx?CharityID=d63644) or to support Eastern Health (healthcarefoundation.ca/donate/in-memory-donations/).
