Obituary for
Theodore “Ted” Suggitt
June 26, 1927 – November 29, 2022
It is with deep sorrow, but with the recognition of a full life lived, we announce the passing of our father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Theodore “Ted” Suggitt. Throughout childhood he was also known as “Lefty,” left-handedness something the school system was unable to correct.
Ted is survived by his dear wife, Clara; sons, John, Robert (Michele), Thomas (Nancy) and David; daughter, Catherine (Frank); daughter-in-law, Jennifer; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other family members. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert “Bob”; sister, Margaret “Peggy”; son, Richard; and daughter-in-law, Isabel.
Ted was born in Lindsay, Ontario before relocating to Toronto at 2 years old. He moved to Alberta at 25, where met his future wife, Clara, 8 years later. They raised 6 kids together, 5 boys and 1 girl. Family was the most important thing to Ted, and he was so proud of each and every one of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ted had an amazing, positive outlook on life, great moral character, family values, and a terrific dry sense of humour.
He was known for being a remarkable athlete, lacrosse being Ted’s favourite sport. He could also play the piano, was a gifted writer and knew how to throw a yo-yo.
Ted was an avid reader, primarily of non-fiction. He also loved his big band music and could often be seen listening to Glenn Miller, Harry James, and Tommy Dorsey. He was a sports fanatic with a love for baseball, his favourite team the New York Yankees.
Ted’s dream job was to become a sportswriter, but it never came to fruition. He worked as a bookkeeper and in the banking industry. In his retirement years (and for 15 years), he volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 10031 – 109 Street, Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, a charity very close to Ted’s heart.
