The Rev. Dale Petley, of Moncton died on Friday, June 25,
2022 following a brief illness. Dale was the son of the late Mel and
Rita (Surette) Petley of Moncton. He was raised in Moncton, graduated
from Moncton High School and held a B.A. from the University of
King’s College and a Master of Divinity degree from Atlantic
School of Theology. Dale was ordained a Deacon in 1982 and Priest in
1983 by the Most Reverend Harold L. Nutter. He served in the Anglican
Diocese of Fredericton as an Assistant Curate in the Parish of Derby
& Blackville, Rector of the Parish of Richmond, Rector of the
Parish of Salisbury & Havelock, during which time he had the
privilege of serving as Regional Dean of the Deanery of Shediac. In
1997, Dale accepted the call to become Associate Rector of All Souls
Church in the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma Dale
contributed his time to several diocesan committees, acted as Justice
on the Ecclesiastical Court, and was given the Honour of being
Chaplain of Diocesan Convention. Dale served in the wider community as
a Police Chaplain for seven years (Nichols Hills) and also served
three years as Chaplain of the Oklahoma State Committee of Chiefs of
Police (OSCCP). He returned to Moncton in 2019 following his
retirement from parish ministry.
Dale is survived by his brother Art Surette (Jayne) of
Moncton and his sister Judy Petley of Moncton, as well as several
nieces and nephews.
At Dale’s request there will be no visitation or
viewing. Dale’s requiem eucharist will be celebrated at St.
George’s Anglican Church, 51 Church St. Moncton, on
Wednesday, June 29, at 3:00 PM. Interment will be held at Our Lady of
Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. George’s
Anglican Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
