Obituary
Tex Thomas Mortimer passed away peacefully with family at his side on January 26, 2022 at the age of 81.
Tex is remembered by his loving wife Bunny; treasured son Spencer and wife Colleen; and his precious grandchildren Hannah, Mackenzie, Thomas, and Justine. Tex’s grandchildren were the joy of his life. They have many cherished memories and adored him. He is survived by dear cousin Marilyn Mortimer; aunt Roxienna Ashmore; Mortimer and Hellmer cousins; and many close friends.
Bunny’s large family was very connected to Tex. He was greatly loved by in-laws Del & Shannon Schneider; David & Yvette Glas; Louise & Harvey Donauer; Quin & Vivian Glas; Marie & Allen Kress; Ron Lazeski; Syd & Debbie Glas; Joan & Don Heisler; Dee & Murray Froehlich; and many nieces and nephews.
Tex, an only child, was predeceased by his parents Ray & Alice Mortimer; son Shane and wife Natasha; Bunny’s parents Martin & Tillie Glas; sisters-in-law Lydia Schneider and Laura Lazeski; and nephews Clinton Glas and Derek Heisler.
Tex was raised in Calgary and graduated from St. Mary’s Boys School in 1959. He became a telecommunications technician and was a loyal employee with Telus for 35 years. Tex met the love of his life, Bunny while leading the Catholic Youth Organization at St. Joseph’s Parish. They married in October 1964 and were blessed with two sons.
A devoted Catholic, Tex was a faith filled man. He was actively involved at St. Lukes Parish over many decades and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a dedicated husband and father, filling family life with camping adventures, road trips, and many memorable vacations. Tex was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music, and was skilled at woodworking. As a young man, Tex enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Later, he developed interests in wine making and photography. He had a lifelong passion for scouting and through his leadership, he made a difference in many young lives.
Tex retired in 1995 and embraced his retirement years with Bunny, travelling frequently to their lake property in the Kooteneys, taking several trips to their little piece of paradise in Maui, and snow birding to Arizona and Texas. Attending family functions and events was especially joyous.
Tex’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Schuck, the caregivers and staff at the Rising Sun and Oilfield General Hospital in Black Diamond for their remarkable care and attention. Their support, compassion, and expressions of kindness were greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rising Sun Long Term Care home via the Sheep River Health Trust or to the charity of donors choice.
A Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday February 12, 2022 at 11:00am. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the mass will be closed to the public.
