It is with heavy hearts the MacCormac family
announces the peaceful passing of their dear mother, Teresa
Joseph MacCormac, on September 18, 2022, at the age of
94.
Teresa was born on March 19, 1928, in Placentia Bay,
Newfoundland and spent most of her teenage years living in St.
John’s. Throughout the years she also lived in
many Atlantic Canadian cities and Ottawa, Ontario – finally making
Antigonish, Nova Scotia her permanent home in
1985.
Teresa had a wonderful sense of humour and loved telling
jokes. Her life was marked with much laughter, and she had a
sharp eye for fashion. Always the performer, she entertained
a multitude of friends and family throughout the years playing the
piano and being the life of the party. Playing the
piano was a big part of her life since she was a
teenager.
She worked for many years in administrative positions at St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick, and St.
Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish, NS. She was an active
volunteer over the years for several hospice and palliative care
units, and also shared her volunteer efforts at the Green Meadows
Nursing Home in Antigonish.
She had a strong love for curling and playing
bridge.
She is survived by five children, Pamela (Micheal) Sullivan,
Riverview, NB; Cynthia MacCormac, Edmonton, AB; Ronald MacCormac,
Dartmouth, NS; Scott (Colleen) MacCormac, Victoria, BC; Heather
MacCormac (Mark Hammond) Windsor Junction, NS; and daughter-in-law,
Anne Marie White, Dartmouth, NS.
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Kait (Kacey), Thomas
(Melissa), Patrick, and Tess (Chris), Liam (Victoria), Sabrina, Brett,
and Christine; and 15 great-grandchildren, Cormac, Nica, Angus,
Frankie, Billie, Abby, Paul, Sullivan, Anne Joseph, Harwin, Ivy, Roen,
Jayda, Bryson, and Colin; one sister, Vera Rowe, Ottawa Ontario; and
several nieces and nephews living across Canada.
She is predeceased by her loving parents, Edmund and Ellen
Carroll; the children’s father, Bernard Bruce MacCormac; two sons,
Bruce MacCormac, Jr., and Joseph “Joey” MacCormac;
granddaughter, Meaghan MacCormac, and her loving and dear partner of
24 years, Blaise Cameron of Antigonish, NS. She is also predeceased by
brother, Edmond Carroll (Patricia); sisters, Joan Ryan (Denis), and
Mary Martin (Alex), and brother-in-law (Ed Rowe).
The family would like to send a sincere and special thanks to
the caring and compassionate staff of St Martha’s Hospital in
Antigonish, NS for their exceptional care during Teresa’s
lengthy stay this past year (January – July 2022), and more recently
Arborstone Enhanced Care Nursing Home in Halifax, NS for their
on-going care.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3 to 5pm, in C.L. Curry
Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass
will be held Friday in St. Ninian Cathedral at 11:00am, with Reverend
Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in St. Ninian
Cemetery.
