Passed away peacefully, at Marianhill Long Term Care, Pembroke, on Tuesday, January 04, 2022. Joe Szczygiel, age 74 of Whitney. Left to mourn Joseph’s passing is his wife of 53 years, Elaine (Fuller) Szczygiel (Winkie) of Whitney, and his sons Shaun (Paul) of Whitby, and Darrin (Annette) of Powassan. Loving grandfather of Jack and Scott. Brother of Richard Szczygiel (Patsy) of Whitney, and Irene Green (Michael) of Maynooth. Son-in-law of June Fuller of Whitney. Predeceased by his parents Margarete and Bronis Szczygiel of Whitney, and his father-in-law Harold (Buster) Fuller. Born in Brauweiler, Germany, Joe lived in Whitney most of his life, and worked for 47 years with McRae Lumber Company Ltd. Diagnosed with vascular dementia in January 2018, and with declining health became a resident at Marianhill Long Term Care Home in Pembroke, Ontario in March 2021. Joe enjoyed hockey, especially watching his son Darrin and grandsons Jack and Scott play, fishing on Lake Opeongo, woodworking, and winter vacations in the Caribbean. Cremation has taken place, with a Graveside Service at Union Cemetery, Whitney in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Children’s “Make A Wish” Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to M.G. Daly Funeral Home, Maynooth.
