Sybil Giles (Allen) Gertridge
1934-2022
Sybil Giles (Allen) Gertridge – 87,
of Gaspereau, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 in Valley
Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Grand Pre, she was a daughter of
the late Frederick and Jean (Giles) Allen. Mom was the last surviving
member of her immediate family.
Mom enjoyed working and helping the elderly.
She worked for over 20 years at the Wolfville Nursing Home and
assisted many others so they could remain in their homes. She was a
softball player in her younger years and in her latter years, her
interest in sports continued, as she watched golf, tennis and curling.
Mom had a very keen interest in politics, both locally and nationally.
She was always on top of the status of the goings on in the world.
When she was able and her health was good, Mom enjoyed playing bingo
and cards with friends. When friends, family and neighbors dropped by,
a cup of tea was poured, and a treat was served up to go along with
it. Having company drop in was always a
highlight.
She is survived by her sons, Timothy Gertridge
(Robin Cochrane), Michael Gertridge (Tracy Coldwell); and daughter,
Gay (John) Weir; grandchildren, Natasha (Darren) James, Ryan Gertridge
(Krista Gilbey), Michael Gertridge (Melissa Feltham), Elizabeth
(Aaron) Harnish, Nicole (Jeff) Legge, Holly Loveridge (Jay
Wannamaker), Kylee Weir, Jillian Weir, and Brianna Cochrane; 13 great
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Irene
Allen.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased
by her husband, Frank Gertridge; daughter, Beth Gertridge; brothers,
Joseph, Frederick, George, Gerald, Gordon, Richard and Jack; and
sisters, Gladys Biggs, Winnifred England, Margaret Atwell and chosen
sister, Sheena Atwell.
Cremation has taken place. A private graveside
service will be held in Gaspereau Cemetery, Gaspereau, Kings County.
Donations in memory may be made to Gaspereau Baptist Church. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
