Susan Jean Scarfe (née Clarke) passed away on April 17, 2022, after a long battle with dementia. She loved the original White Spot, cowboys, horses, softball, shelties, hiking at Lake O’Hara, cabining at Pigeon Lake, marauding in the family motorboat, and travel—especially vacationing in Kauai.
After graduating from Lord Byng Secondary in Vancouver in 1960, Susan received her degree as registered nurse from the School of Nursing at Vancouver General Hospital in 1965. She married Brian Leslie Scarfe, and they had two sons together in Winnipeg. After moving to Edmonton in 1977, Susan enjoyed entertaining friends and hosting many social gatherings for the academic community. After her divorce in 1989, Susan single-handedly saw both of her sons through their post-secondary educations all while working night shifts (Gynecology and Orthopedics) at the University of Alberta Hospitals. She was fiercely proud of her “dahling” sons.
Later, she fulfilled a life-long dream and travelled to Kenya and Tanzania for a safari in the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. She was an avid listener of music, especially Il Divo to which she would always sing along. Susan is survived by her two sons, Andrew (Colin) and Adam (Larissa); and her brother, Graham (Debbie). She is predeceased by her parents, Marion, and Sidney Clarke; ex-parents-in-law, Gladys, and Neville Scarfe; and ex-husband, Brian.
To fulfill her dream of being able to return to the Vancouver area, she will be memorialized there on May 8, 2022. Andrew and Adam wish to convey their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre where Susan had spent her last sixteen months.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Susan Jean Scarfe 2022..
