Susan Gross Thursday October 27th 2022

In loving Memory of Susan Gross (Frim)
June 5, 1928 – October 27, 2022
Susan passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of October 27, 2022, eager to rejoin her late husband Martin. Survived by her children (son The Rev Stephen Gross & spouse Susan, daughter Karen Dow & spouse Ken), grandchildren (Krista Neumann & spouse Richman, Kayla Poitras & spouse Ryan, Christy Quick & spouse Tim, Craig Cousins), and her great-grandchildren (Kinley, Hudson, Jillian and Anderson).
Vibrant, generous, and always willing to lend an attentive ear, “Susie” could be the life of the party. She was a close friend and confidant to many and was known to spend hours keeping in touch via phone and hand-written letters. She possessed a healthy competitive streak and played a mean game of cards (you did not want to play Canasta against her!). She loved to entertain and knew how to have fun.
Born in Romania, Susan immigrated to Canada with her family when she was 18 months old. The third of four children (siblings Rose, John, and Michael), she described her childhood as a pleasant one filled with love. There, she learned to play the piano – a gift from her older sister Rose – and has fond memories dancing.
Susan met her spouse Martin at the wedding of a mutual friend. To hear them tell the story, she fell in love with his dancing right away, but it took a little more persistence on his part before she agreed to marry him. They were married October 13th, 1956, on a beautiful fall day, and shortly thereafter bought a bungalow and started a family. Together, they were the definition of unconditional love, selflessness, and family values. They were the kind of grandparents others adopted as their own, and always more than happy to spread their love.
Oma loved to feed people. From special German pastries to thoughtful scratch-cooked meals, she had a talent for bringing people together around food made with love. Sunday dinner was an ongoing family tradition and never complete without something sweet to top it off. For many years she was an integral part of a bowling league and won many trophies to prove it. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and dancing whenever she could. Oma and Opa loved to go dancing and were member of the Transylvania Club. Oma and Opa even danced late into the night at their grandchildren’s weddings! Oma loved fiercely and with her whole heart. Her lasting legacy is one of unconditional and unfaltering love.
A special thank you to Susan King for her compassionate care and friendship during the last few months. We also want to thank the PSWs from CBI for their care and support.
In accordance to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will be held.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cambridge Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
