In loving memory of Stewart Staples, who passed away Thursday, March 10th, 2022 at his home in Sudbury. Beloved husband of Marion Staples who passed away April 24th, 2010. Loving father of Linda (Al Farquharson) of Guelph, Ginny (Dave Hannan) of Pittsburgh, and Barbara (Alf Dumont) of Coquitlam.
Grandfather of Andy, Peter, Jamie, Sarah and David, Jeff, Courtney and Patrick and Mike and Dan and great grandfather of Will and Aubrey, Jack and Walker and Evie.
Stew was born on April 26, 1928 in Millbrook, ON, to Charles and Edith Staples. As a young adult he taught for a year after studying at Normal School. With further study in forestry, he chose a career with the Department of Lands and Forests. He planned many provincial parks in mid northern Ontario. He moved to Sudbury during those years where he met Marion, who shared a love of curling. They married in 1954. He became a dad to four-year old Barbara. Stew and Marion welcomed two more daughters into their family, Linda and then Ginny. In the 1960’s, Stew left forestry to join Confederation Life and studied to obtain his Chartered Life Underwriters degree. He was active for decades in the Sudbury life insurance community. Notable is the work he did with Laurentian University, from its founding, establishing policies for employees.
Stew and Marion lived in their home on Roxborough Drive in Sudbury for over 58 years. They continued to enjoy the game of curling. Stew was also an avid golfer, at home and on vacation. The family enjoyed many fun times in Florida and Hawaii. Stew loved to keep up on the current news, especially by reading newspapers.
His greatest joy in life was his family. His pride of his children and grandchildren was apparent to everyone he talked to. Later in life his great grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
