Steve Sykes passed away in Okotoks, AB on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the age of 48 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Audrey; nephew Kevin Jeffery; siblings, Elaine, Chris and Jane (Jim); great nephew and namesake Steven Jeffery; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends. Steve was predeceased by his father, Percy (2018), his brother, Douglas (1982) and his nephew Christopher (1997).
Steve was born and raised in Calgary. He maintained many friendships including some that started in preschool and lasted his entire life. Steve had incredible compassion and found the good in everyone. He was the one that friends called to laugh with, cry with and work through problems. He loved playing baseball, reading, playing video games, travelling and dancing (at least that’s what he called it). Steve achieved his lifelong dream of being a truck driver and loved delivering explosives to the Yukon and the coal mines in Southern Alberta. He liked the freedom of being outside and not having to sit at a desk all day. He enjoyed small town living and resided in Nanton. Steve courageously fought cancer with an amazing positive attitude and grace. Even when he was in hospice he would say that he was thankful and grateful. He made a tremendous impact and will be missed by many.
Steve always spoke highly of the many medical professionals that cared for him. He was surrounded by exceptional people that exhibited extensive knowledge, caring and compassion.

A Funeral Service will be held for Steve at Pierson’s Forest Lawn Chapel (4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Interment of his urn will follow the service at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Foothills Country Hospice Society (www.countryhospice.org).
