Steven Jim Taylor Sunday March 13th 2022

Steven Jim Taylor
April 14, 1964 – March 13, 2022

On Sunday, March 13, 2022 Steven Taylor’s earthly pilgrimage drew to a close. The Lord called him home and welcomed his child, by grace alone.

Steven was born on April 14, 1964, in Kitchener, Ontario to Jim and Eunice Taylor and died at North York General Hospital after a prolonged illness in his 58th year.

Steven is survived by his wife of 28 years, Karen; his children, Trichia (Andrew), Jana (Wes), Shannon (Dan), Courtney, Samuel, Serena and Abigail; his grandchildren, Emma, Brendan; Seth, Noel, Naomi; Callan, Aidan, and Bronte; his siblings, Don (Jean), Karen (Ross); his mother Eunice and his father Jim (Lynette) along with many other family members; preceded in death by his sister, Susan.

Independent from an early age, Steven developed an entrepreneurial approach to life, exploring many different passions. He loved to cook and enjoyed cultural food which led him to the food services industry, even owning his own restaurant and cooking at camps. He also pursued many hands-on interests which led to becoming a Jack-of-all-trades around the home with renovations and upgrades to different houses, installing phone systems for companies, managing a swim school and rec centre for many years. This led to eventually pool maintenance and services resulting in Steven opening his own company. Then in 2010, he purchased a friend’s pool business, which he ran until his death.

Proud of his Scottish heritage on the Rutherford side of his family, Steven loved to host people in his home, including exchange students from around the globe and loved learning about different cultures. He was a son, brother, husband, father and friend who lived his life passionately and intensely. He was generous to a fault, and was very involved in his children’s lives, his church and local homeschooling community. When the children were young the family went to many camps throughout Ontario and the US, and hosted many events for the homeschooling community with the help of his wife, Karen.

Steven pursued faith in the Lord, and trusted in the grace and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. We praise God for our comfort in life and in death: “The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deuteronomy 33:27)

Funeral service for Steven will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at New Horizon Church (2300 Bridletowne Circle, Toronto) with Rev. Mitchell Persaud officiating. Due to multiple allergies we would kindly ask for family and friends to refrain from wearing scented products when you come to give your condolences. Thank you for your understanding.

Steven’s family would like to thank the staff at North York General Hospital for their care of Steven in his last weeks, as well as the many others who expressed their love through visits, cards, phone calls, messages, songs and gifts.

  1. Oh my. How sad to discover this news of Steve’s untimely passing. I remember him with much fondness going way, way back to church camp days in the early 80’s. We exchanged letters (between Toronto and Kitchener) for a couple of years during my nursing school days and I considered him a brother in Christ and a kindred soul. My heartfelt condolences to his family.
