In Celebration of
Stephen Szilagyi
January 29, 1934 –
January 22, 2022
It is with sadness that we announce Stephen’s passing on Saturday, January 22, 2022, one week before his 88th birthday.
He was lovingly known as Uncle Stevie to his surviving nieces and nephews, Louise (Marshal), Carol, Melody (Dennis), Kathleen (Dan), David, James, Carolyn (Les), Johnny (Marie-Lyse), Gary, and great-nieces and nephews. His last month’s were spent at the home of his nephew Brian (Tina), who were with him when he peacefully left us.
Predeceased by his parents Louis and Elizabeth (Gulyas), siblings Louis, Elizabeth and John, as well as niece and Godchild Diane.
Retired from Molson’s Brewery, he was hardworking, extremely intelligent and had a thirst for knowledge. His passion for reading made for very interesting conversation on just about any topic. He loved his cats, and being outdoors either working, gardening or walking. Much of his life was devoted to caring for others, particularly his mother.
The family would like to thank all who cared for him these last few months, especially the palliative care teams of the CLSC and Nova who gave wonderful guidance and support to help Steve be comfortable during his last weeks.
Funeral service will be at Mount Royal funeral home at a later date. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery.
Donations to the SPCA in Stephen’s memory would be appreciated.
