November 4, 1987 – January 16, 2022
Memorial Donation
Our beloved son, Stephen Dinn, unexpectedly passed away on January 16, 2022, at the young age of 34. He leaves behind the broken hearts of those who loved him the most including, his parents, Gary and Karen, sister and brother-in-law Crystal and Dustin Hartery, and grandmother, Mollie Thomas. He is predeceased by his grandparents Leo and Agnes Dinn and Fred Thomas, his very special Aunt Matilda and Uncle Alfred Melvin, and cousins Keith and Dana Frizzell.
Stephen is survived by a large family and many friends. Among those are his godchildren, Cole Codner and Jordan Rodriguez. His very special Aunt Lana, Uncle Paul (godfather), and Uncle Peter and Tina Thomas. His cousins Shauna, Cole, Alicia, Paige, and Portia. His special Aunt Marie (godmother) and Uncle Robert Reddigan. As well, Uncle Glen Codner, who supported him during his career in Alberta.
Being a Dinn from the Goulds made Stephen proud. He is survived by uncles Leo (Junior) and Elizabeth, Jimmy and Sharon, Vince and Rosanne, David and Cathy, and Peter and Stella. His Aunts Diane Frizzell, Shirley and Brian Doyle, Donna and the late Tom Cahill, Janet and Joe Ryan, Marge and Ricky Walsh, Lorraine Dinn, Anne Marie and Raymond Dalton. He leaves behind many cousins and their families. Of all his cousins, he had a special bond with Andrew Ryan and Travis Dinn. Both were there for Stephen in the good times and when days were tough.
Stephen also leaves behind another special family who is mourning him. His second mom, as he fondly called her, Patrica Short. Patricia, Lot, and their family helped Stephen during dark days. They loved him unconditionally and ensured his safety. Laura, Jessica, and Justyn Short were special cousins to Stephen. Jessica, in particular, has been taking care of Stephen’s dog, Fool for the past 1.5 years. It was comforting to Stephen to know Jessica had Fool and that he was loved. Justyn and Stephen became good friends in the last few years. They shared laughs in the garage. Stephen would say Laura and Justyn were the best paramedics because they genuinely care.
In his large circle of friends, he was known as ‘Dinn, a charmer, lover of country music, Habs fan, and life of the party. Among Stephen’s gifts were his huge heart, his smile, and his witty comments that could keep conversations flowing. Our family has been overwhelmed with kind messages from friends of Stephen. It has kept our hearts beating. They are mourning him as we are and celebrating him also. Special mentions to Anthony and Melissa Rodriquez and their children Jordan and Nixon (who referred to him as Uncle Steve), Preston Aitken, Colin Kennedy, Ricky Whiteway, Steven Gulliver, Colin Mahoney, Brandon Stuart, Andy Jeans and France Liboiron, Evan Bursey, Don MacDonald, Laura Costigan, Tristan Byrne, Caitlyn Broderick, Nick Dawe, Brian Conway, and Ashley Hamilton.
Thank you to Ryan’s Funeral home, in particular Uncle Joe for taking such good care of Stephen during this difficult time in our lives. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Those who knew Stephen knew of his vibrant personality, his unique outlook on life, and his desire to help each person he met. If you would like to express your sympathy, we encourage donations to be sent to the Dinn Memorial (EMT DinnMemorial@gmail.com) or can be dropped off in person. We know Stephen would have wanted to help others therefore donations will be shared with some of Stephen’s favourite local charities and organizations.
The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters.
