Stan was born and raised on the Charette farm near Greenway, between Glenora, Baldur, and Mariapolis, which were his home communities. His parents raised 10 children during the 1930s and 40s and his father died when he was just 12 years old in grade 8. His mother had to raise the family on her own and with their help to keep the farm running until they were able to find their own way in the world. Stan was the one who wanted to work the farm and he was fortunate to meet his soul mate, Gloria Hutchinson who was teaching at a nearby one room schoolhouse, Excelsior School. They married in 1952 and recently celebrated their 70 year anniversary.
Stan was a farmer at heart and learned the lessons of the land and community for 71 years before he and Gloria retired from the farm and moved to Miami, MB. for another 20 years. They took up golf and enjoyed their retirement in Miami, Mb. He enjoyed being part of community events, all the sports, socials, parties, driving their school bus route and chats over coffee with friends. He enjoyed travelling with Gloria to see friends and family and they made an effort to watch the games and sports his children and grandchildren played and supported them in countless ways. He loved his family and nothing pleased him more than family holiday get- togethers. He was a man of few words but he was aware and interested in the world until his last day. He valued a handshake. We will remember and miss Stan.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the care Stan received at his final home at The Boyne Lodge. Special thanks to the staff who worked with him and cared for him for 5 years.
