The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada are saddened to announce the death of Sister Mary Ambrose Huszak, at St. Joseph’s Residence London on January 23, 2022 in her 81st year as a Sister of St. Joseph.
Sister Mary Ambrose was born in Hungary, the daughter of the late Francis Huszak and Anna Takacs. She came to Canada as a young child and grew up in Brantford, Ontario. She will be remembered with love and missed by her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Rowsell, her nephews Stephen and Peter Szabo, her niece Sheila Szabo, their families, and the members of her religious family.
Sister Mary Ambrose brought her many gifts and boundless energy to the teaching profession ministering to school communities for over thirty years. Sister loved to learn and was continually updating her professional skills. She began her teaching career as an elementary teacher and principal. In 1957 she began teaching at Cathedral Girls Highschool. She became Vice Principal in 1967 and went on to serve as principal of Cathedral Girls until she retired from education in 1980. Sister Mary Ambrose was also a gifted musician. During her time at Cathedral Girls, she played both piano and organ and directed the school choir. Her deep faith, professionalism and caring nature made her well respected and loved as a teacher and administrator.
In 1980 Sister Mary Ambrose was elected to the Congregational Leadership Team. During her time in leadership, she served as the Director of Mission Education for St. Joseph’s Health Care System. It gave her great joy to share the history and mission of the congregation in the Health Care Institutions. In retirement she remained an active member of the Hamilton Residence. As her sight was deteriorating, she continued to play the organ for Liturgical Celebrations. Sister Mary Ambrose moved to Tansley Woods in Burlington in 2020 and she was welcomed into the London residence in 2021.
Public visitation will take place at Holy Rosary Parish in Burlington, on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 2-4:30p.m. If you wish to visit or attend the Mass of Christian Burial, please register online at www.dermodys.com or by phone at 905-388-4141. Covid protocols are in place. Masks must be worn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Parish at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022.
The live service will be streamed at www.holyrosaryburlington.com. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will follow.
