Solomon’s Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of the late Solomon Billard, announce his peaceful passing at the Western Memorial Long Term Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook, NL on Sunday, January 30th, 2022 at the age of 63 years. Born in Isle aux Morts, NL, Solomon was the son of the late Solomon and Susanna Billard. He was also predeceased by his son; Michael Billard, great-granddaughter; Lyla Rose, brothers; Ivan, John and George, sisters; Caroline Billard and Louise Keeping, brothers-in-law; George Hatcher and Lorne Samms, sister-in-law; Florence Billard, father and mother-in-law; Clifford and Mary Samms.
Solomon leaves behind with many fond and precious memories his loving wife of 44 years; Maggie Billard (nee Samms), son; Clifford (Glenda) Billard of Halifax, NS, grandchildren; Morgan (Daniel) Simms, Michael and Charlotte Billard.
Solomon also leaves behind siblings; Wilson (Norma), Earl (Pauline), Jerry (Neita), Vivian, Miriam (George), Christopher, Darryl (Amanda) all of Isle aux Morts, NL, Stacey (John) Port aux Basques, NL, Margaret (Blandford), Clyde (Valenia) all of Burnt Islands, NL, sisters-in-law; Beatrice (William) Lawrence, Lorna (Ronald) Leamon, Tina (Kerry) Savoury of Isle aux Morts, NL, Eileen (Burkley) Skinner of Halifax, NS, Wanda Samms of Fort St. John BC, Jeanette Billard of Margaree, NL, Elizabeth (Paul) Lomond of Port aux Basques, NL, brothers-in-law; Henry Keeping of Burnt Islands, NL, Rocky Samms of Halifax, NS, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 2nd from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, February 3rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 4th, at 2 p.m. from the Holy Spirit Anglican Church in Isle aux Morts officiated by Rev. Edward Coleman. Interment to follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Solomon’s memory can be made to the family. Maggie and family, so sorry to hear about Solomon’s passing. May you find solace in memories you made together over the years to help you get through this most difficult time. One of my favourite memories of Solomon dates back to the fall of 1984 when we were moose hunting in the country. We were drinking and everyone got loaded drunk . I started to make up and sing a song about a goldfish that died. When I finished I looked over at Solomon and he was crying. I asked him “what’s wrong?” He replied, ” that was a sad song.” Needless to say whenever I saw him again i’d always say “how’s your goldfish” and is reply was always very explicit.
