KIMPEL, Sister Alfreda, School Sister of Notre Dame
Passed away on December 1, 2022 at the age of 91 and in her 73rd year as a School Sister of Notre Dame.
Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Beatrice (Lohr) Kimpel, her sisters, Sandra Wakeford, Patricia Witmer and Paula Skinner and her brother, John. Lovingly remembered by the members of her congregation, her sister, Sister Martin de Porres SSND and Dorothy Ruller and her brother, Doug.
Sister Alfreda was in charge of young children at St. Agatha Orphanage, St. Agatha, ON from 1949 -1953. After helping with the boarding students at Notre Dame Academy, Waterdown for two years, she returned to St. Agatha Orphanage taking care of the boys until 1967. During the next two years she helped at Notre Dame College, Waterloo and in the food services department at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown.
Sister Alfreda moved to Notre Dame Convent School, Lingfield, England where she was in charge of the senior boarders from 1969-1984. With her quick wit, sense of humour and caring nature she endeared herself to the girls who came from various countries. In 1985 her desire to minster on the missions and join her sister, Sister Martin de Porres, in La Paz, Bolivia became a reality. She taught religion to children, visited the campos, and assisted in the parish, On her return to Ontario in 1999 she was a member of the leadership team at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown and provided assistance to the community until illness limited her activities.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 10:30am at School Sisters of Notre Dame, Waterdown. Registration is required. Cremation will have taken place. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Burlington will follow the funeral Mass. Masks are required.
