Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing in Vernon Jubilee Hospital on November 10, 2022 of Sidney Norman McLain, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, 24 days. He was born in Bridgewater, NS, the youngest of nine to Caleb and Annie McLean. He arrived in Malakwa, BC at 4:00 p.m., Oct. 23, 1952 and has been there ever since.
He is survived by his children Geoffrey (Karen), Jeannette Mack (Raines), Scott (Dianne), and Sheila McPhee (Dan), seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves three stepchildren Patrick Gear, Terry-Lynn Booker (John), and Donna Gear, 10 step-grandchildren and 23 step-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by friends Monica Dary, ‘Burner Dave’ Nabor and Paddy Nicholson, niece Jessie Fletcher, caregivers Audrey and Denise, numerous other nieces and nephews spread from NS to Vancouver Island — and also by his dog and cat Bonnie and Rusty. Sid is also survived by sister Esther Bond and sisters-in-law Ruth and Gladys (all in NS), and step-son-in-law Jeff Johnson.
Sid was predeceased by his wives Suna in 1984 and Margaret in 2017, his parents, sisters Daisy (in infancy) and Flora Baker, brothers Bill, Leander, Walter, Leroy, and Harry, and stepdaughter Yvonne Johnson.
There will be a gathering in Sid’s honour at his home in Malakwa after the winter has passed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation.
