Shirley Kirkpatrick
1940-2022
Shirley Kirkpatrick of
Riverview passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at The Moncton
Hospital. Born in Kendal, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of the
late Louis and Barbara (Herold) Stremick.
She was an elementary
school teacher in Saskatchewan, Oromocto and Fort Smith, NWT. She was
a homemaker extraordinaire and was always involved with life around
her. She was a huge part of her community including the Girl Guide
movement, Sunday School teacher, square and round dance and family
reunions. She was deeply committed to many families from Vietnam, El
Salvador, Afghanistan and Kosovo through her work as a host and ESL
teacher. She was a member of the St. Paul’s U.C.W., the St.
Paul’s Journey Group, the Spiritual Group and the Prayer
Network. Spiritual matters were of great importance to
her.
Shirley had many, many interests. Her creative
spirit informed every aspect of her life. She loved to cook
and entertain, she sewed many a christening, prom and wedding dress.
She loved art and painting, reading poetry and she especially loved
her friends who brought such joy and meaning to her
life
Shirley loved being a mom, grandmother and
aunty. She made each one feel they were the most special
human on the planet because they were to her. She was a “second
mom” to so many people because she cared so deeply. She was
interested in everyone she met and would want to help no matter how
long she knew you. Shirley embodied “Love One
Another”.
Shirley met the love
of her life during her time in Fort Smith, NWT. She followed him to
New Brunswick where they began their 60-year journey together. They
shared their love of life with family and friends at 142 Wentworth for
almost their entire married life. Their home was the centre of
countless celebrations, good times and laughter. Shirley and Derald
had a wonderful life together and traveled together for over 20 years.
Derald died less than a week before Shirley. It was a love story from
beginning to end.
She will be dearly
missed by her son Aubrey (Kimberly Kirkpatrick); daughters Patricia
(Michael Dixon), Maureen (Tory Cassis); sisters Linda (Larry Brunel),
Donna (Bob Donaldson); brother Jerry (Elaine Stremick); grandchildren
Chloe and Hunter Kirkpatrick, Liam and Drew Dixon, and Cole Cassis;
eighteen nieces and nephews in Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by
her sister Betty Nadeau.
Due to the current
Covid 19 restrictions, visitation and a service will take place at a
later date to be announced. The arrangements are entrusted
to Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road,
Riverview (869-2007). Donations to St Paul’s United Church
or Friends of the Moncton Hospital would be appreciated by Shirley’s
family.
