It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our mother Shirley Joyce (Thomes) Gallop, age 87, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at home.
Born in Sydney Mines on June 2, 1935, Shirley was the daughter of the late Russell and Bessie (Bridge) Thomes. Over the years Shirley worked in retail at various department stores on the Northside. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines and an active member of the Anglican Church Women (A.C.W.).
Shirley is survived by her children Lynn (George) Best, Gary (Catherine), Norma (Robert) Edwards, Sheila (Richard) Dooley, Lorri (John) Robichaud; her loving grandchildren Jennifer, Jeffery, Jonathan and Josh; Meghann, Mark and Liam; Cynthia and Owen; Sidney and David; also her 17 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents Shirley was predeceased by her husband Clifford.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Hickey for the wonderful care he provided for our mother.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Shirley will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers donations can by made to the SPCA or a charity of the donor’s choice.
