Henry, Shirley Doreen – Age 76, Brookfield. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law, Shirley D. Henry. Our family will never be the same without her. Shirley was born in Truro, Nova Scotia to the late Walter and Annie (Anthony) MacLeod on February 10, 1946. She passed away at home in Brookfield on Monday, September 5, 2022.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Robert in 2010; her son, Daniel Henry in 2016; daughter, Carolyn Johnson in 2022; grandsons, Andrew and Kyle Henry and siblings, Walter, Isabelle, Nina, Bessie, Cecil, Daisy, Gladys, Marion, Ashley and Madelyn.
Dear mom to Ruth Henry (Ian McNutt) of Debert and Angela (Jeff) Cameron of Salmon River; mother-in-law to Wade Johnson of Alton; beloved grammie to Jennifer Nelson, Thomas Henry, Samantha and Justin McNutt, Robert and Alexander Cameron and great grammy to Gage and Devon MacBurnie; cherished sister to Gertrude Osborne; most loved mom and best friend to her faithful dog, Buddy.
Shirley was a pioneer, being one of the first self-employed female dump truck drivers in the area. She and her husband, Bobby, co-owned and operated R.G. Henry Trucking for over 20 years. She was part of the Stanfield’s team for a while before that. She was known for her great sense of humour and when you were with her, she would always make sure you had your “laugh for the day.” She was a card shark and was always up for a game or for an adventure, wherever it led. She was a fierce protector of her family and if you were in her circle of friends, you would be well looked after. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022, at 2:00pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS, with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating.
